The new senior mathematics syllabus for Queensland, implemented from 2019 to 2020, requires a new approach to teaching and learning resources. Queensland schools need a resource that definitively interprets the syllabus, comprehensively prepares students for exams and also fosters Queensland’s inquiry approach to learning.

Cambridge University Press has a proven track record of delivering exceptional senior mathematics resources and our approach to this series includes a few essential ingredients to meet the needs of teachers and students:

  1. Relevant real-life context provided by scaffolded and unscaffolded problem-solving and modelling tasks (PSMTs) and real-life contexts for questions. The structure and wording of many of the problems should encourage exploration and inquiry.
  2. A range of activities that develop understanding. Technology activities like the Desmos graphing calculator, other online calculators and spreadsheets to foster independent investigation and enable students to become flexible, critical and creative maths users.
  3. Best practice pedagogical techniques to topics aligned with the Australian Curriculum and to questions geared to external examinations such as the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE).
  4. Exceptional assessment preparation including solutions for all unit 3&4 assessment items as well as another set available only to teachers in the Online Teaching Suite. Additional tests, skillsheets and activities in the teacher resource to help teachers prepare students comprehensively.
  5. Expert Queensland educators combined with highly experienced maths authors and publishers whose senior maths resources for Victoria and NSW have established a proven teaching and learning formula that is regarded as the leading resource for senior students.

We listened to what expert Queensland educators said, we comprehensively interpreted the new syllabus, we drew on our expertise as an authoritative publisher of senior mathematics textbooks, and we created resources that can be relied on to deliver QCE success for Queensland students for years to come.
