Spotlight on Community and Family Studies Part 3

13 SEPTEMBER 2017
New study on the effects of extreme weather conditions on homeless people provides a learning opportunity for CAFS students

A study conducted by CQ University and the Australian Red Cross has looked at the impact of extreme weather conditions on the homeless: ‘Building the weather and disaster resilience of the homeless community’.

HSC students of Community and Family Studies are required to study Homeless People as part of their Groups in Context core. An article on the study findings was published on the Conversation website and provides an opportunity for students of CAFS to put their core learning into practice by observing the terminology used by the community to describe the group, what needs can be identified for these individuals, and what services are required to support these groups in increasingly frequent extreme weather events.

The Cambridge Checkpoints HSC Community and Family Studies study guide is written by Kelly Bell and Kate Rayner, experienced CAFS teachers and co-founders of the CAFS Network. The study guide provides everything a HSC student needs to prepare for exams in a go-anywhere format.
